Project Description

The construction of this 7 star hotel on a manmade island resembles a gigantic ancient Arabian dhow, 328m high. This project involved two exoskeletons, rear braced frame, heavy atrium floors, Skyview restaurant, helipad, mast and other ancillary steelwork. The RC core was provided with numerous embeds up to 70 tons each, capable of supporting, amongst others, Skyview restaurant girders cantilevering 24m into space. The whole structure presented intense complex geometry. Strand Jacking was used for the lifting and erection, up to 180m, of the exoskeleton diagonals, being 165 tons each and 80m long. Three self-erecting 76 ton tower cranes were positioned for the lifting of the other heavy members, including tandem lifts of 90 tons and mast sections of up to 328m.
